PROPORTION

Updated: Oct 18, 2021

Proportion is the principle of art that refers to relative size. The principles of art differ from the elements of art. Most, if not all of the principles of art deal with how the elements art are arranged in a work of art.

Proportion is largely about the relationship of the size of one element when compared to another. Alternatively, artists can use proportion for effect. By manipulating proportion, the artist can make his/her subject seem strong, weak, funny, mysterious, etc.

VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF PROPORTION:

Life is amazing that you find everything interesting. This photograph was taken while all of us were fishing. I find proportions in this image representing our food chain & the harmony between the nature & us.

REPRESENTATION OF PROPORTION THROUGH FOOD:

I discovered the transformational power of a good raita. In fact, for me, the biryani simply can’t be eaten without raita, although purists might disagree. I think the proportionate crunch of the vegetables and the sharpness of the yogurt are the perfect foil to the richness of the biryani, elevating it from great to sublime. Hence I found proportions in eating Biryani.

REPRESENTATION OF PROPORTION THROUGH sound:

In villages and even in urban localities, the method to clean the rice is using bamboo woven tray. When you hear the sound of it, you observe the proportionate flipping of rice with proportionate balancing of clean rice in the tray. A proportionate amount of rice is only taken to clean in the tray. Hence found proportion in the whole rice cleaning activity.

REPRESENTATION OF PROPORTION THROUGH TOUCH:

When you run your finger through the paint brushes you only find certain proportionate amount of hair touching your finger and that proportion is maintained through out.
